Take a smattering of vintage Allman Brothers Band, a dash of Stevie Ray Vaughan, a spoonful of James Burton, a dollop of Danny Gatton and a pinch of Jimmy Reed, throw them all into a big old pot and you've got the Alonzo Pennington Band. A satisfying blues stew that’s guaranteed good for the soul!
Alonzo Pennington is a multi-award-winning guitar player who’s been performing his own music since he was 13. Casting a respectful nod to his blues heroes, Alonzo adds his passion, energy and drive to create a soulful and unique blend of rock, rhythm and blues that’s all his own. What you hear on his CD is precisely what you can expect in a live show, only better!
THE KILBORN ALLEY BLUES BAND, which lit up the Hot August Blues Festival in 2009, is torching the blues world coming into the summer of 2010. Kilborn Alley was named by BLUES BLAST magazine as the 2009 Sean Costello Rising Stars in the Blues, and their brand new album entitled BETTER OFF NOW is currently number three on the U.S. blues radio charts. With the youngest members still in their twenties, this young band delivers traditional sounding blues with high energy. Twice nominated for the prestigious Blues Music Awards, Kilborn Alley is as famous for their song writing as for their ferocious performances.
Diddley Squat
No, the blues is NOT depressing! Diddley Squat welcomes you to the world of jumpin’ & swingin’ blues, geared towards lifting you and healing your soul, like blues music was intended from the beginning. Sure, they do their share of traditional delta slide and Chicago-style tunes, and they can get as low-down as a depressed a depressed shyster lawyer at the bottom of the Grand Canyon , but they do lean towards jump—because it makes you feel so good. As a 3-time participant in Memphis’ International Blues Challenge, where Diddley Squat was sent as proud first-place representative of 3 different blues society sponsors, they’re ready to put on a show for you.
The Library Trio
The Library Trio are a blues/rock trio based out of Madisonville, Ky. Their name comes from the fact that there are three band members, and rehearse in the Dawson Springs Library. Musically they are deep rooted in the blues. The band's major influences include Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf, Elmore James, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimmi Hendrix, Jimmy Reed, The Allman Brothers, and the three Kings (Freddie, Albert, and BB). Striving to Perform each blues standard with fire and intensity, don't let the name fool you, these guys are anything but quiet. If Muddy Waters and Led Zeppelin had a baby, it would be The Library Trio.
The Relegators The Relegators bring a distinctive Bluesy flair to their original material, as well as their live shows. A classic Rhythm & Blues sensibility runs through their music and has defined their niche in the dynamic Nashville music scene. Punctuated by melodic horn lines and tasteful vocal arrangements, the Relegators’ live shows feature a mix of memorable original compositions and classic Blues R&B numbers.
Their collective live performance experience spans several continents, countries, and a multitude of venues, from USO Tours to Inaugural Balls. Relegators’ members have played with many artists, including The Drifters, The Platters, Delbert McClinton, Michelle Wright, Jack Greene, to name a few.
Da Mudcats Da’ Mudcats have been called the best blues band in Louisville for 19 years. Drummer Gene Wickliffe and Rob Pickett on guitar and vocals have preformed their exciting and innovative approach to contemporary blues; always with a great respect for tradition.
Greg Nagy
GREG NAGY, formerly with the Root Doctor Band, took his rightful place among today’s leading American roots musicians with the 2009 release of his first feature album, Walk That Fine Thin Line. His songwriting, singing, and guitar playing were at high levels, the ten tracks evidencing a personalized blues music refreshingly infused with elements of soul, r&b, rock, and gospel. Greg’s album earned him a prestigious Best New Artist debut nomination from the Blues Foundation in Memphis, as well as favorable reviews from hard-to-please critics at top media outlets like All About jazz, Blues Revue, DownBeat, and Elmore. Blues/roots DJs throughout North America, Europe, and Australia responded enthusiastically to Greg’s music, with Walk That Fine Line added to enough playlists to appear on the Living Blues radio chart. At XM satellite radio, the album peaked at number three, no small achievement. Blues societies all over joined notables like Living Blues 2009 "Producer of the Year" Jeff Konkel and writer-Producer Dick Shurman (who contributed the liner notes) in praising Greg’s stellar release on the Big O label (www.big-o-records.com).
Delta Moon The dual slide guitars of Delta Moon carry the listener deep into the heart of the American South, where sinuous Mississippi blues meets the gritty backwoods twang of Appalachia and winds around a rock-steady beat like kudzu on a barbwire fence.
The American Roots Music Association named whiskey-voiced Tom Gray 2008 Blues Songwriter of the Year. His songs have been recorded by Cyndi Lauper (including the hit “Money Changes Everything”), Manfred Mann, Carlene Carter, Bonnie Bramlett and many others. Tom was born in Washington D.C. and grew up in Virginia and Georgia, but home was always the family farm in the North Carolina mountains.
John is one of the new generation of blues men. Hard rockin’ blues that includes
elements of all of the styles of music that have influenced John. From T Bone
Walker, Buddy Guy, John’s good friend Joe Louis Walker, B. B. King, to Merle
Haggard, Hank Williams, Waylon Jennings, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, and a host
of other genres of music that combine to make John’s blues unique yet
traditional. John D’Amato is one of those rare guitarists that have managed to
combine amazing chops with amazing feel. His ability to bring a song to the next
level with his incendiary yet tasteful solos combined with his unique soulfull
vocal style make his music a cut above the rest.
Jon Justice was born in the Chicago-Land area in 1982. His first formal music experiences came as a teen touring nationally with Bluegrass and Gospel groups. In 1999 he acted upon the visceral effect such music had had on him. He moved to Memphis seeking to be among those who shared the same deeply felt music sensibilities.
Using that musically rich city as inspiration, Justice joined with veteran pianist Steven Bowens (Percy Sledge, Exile), to form The Recipe. They toured together between 2000 and 2003, performing hundreds of shows and turning thousands onto the emerging sounds of Jon Justice. Developing his sound and experience on the road, Justice finally took it to the studio in 2004. He joined forces with Phillip Wolfe, producer of artists such as Alabama, Trick Pony, and Dickey Betts, and Memphis Horn Wayne Jackson, contributor to the outstanding music of Otis Redding, Elvis, Aerosmith, Bonnie Raitt, and Aretha Franklin. This partnership lead to the well received debut, FORGET ABOUT TIME, released in 2004. Lineup is subject to revision.
